Soma is a drug that is frequently prescribed by physicians in specialties such as family medicine, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, psychiatry and neurosurgery among other specialties. Its generic name is carisoprodol and it is generally prescribed as a muscle relaxer. It is pharmacologically and structurally related to meprobamate, which is an agent that is potentially addictive.

Soma is prescribed to patients suffering from sprains and muscle pains that result after injuries. Patients taking this drug should have adequate rest, get physical therapy and take a number of medical precautions intended to reduce aches and help relax one’s muscles. At times this medicine is prescribed in conjunction with an anti-inflammatory balm or gem that takes away discomfort.

Carisoprodol also works to soothe migraines and the nervous system, because it changes the manner in which the human body perceives pain. Some people suffering from muscle pains hesitate to buy Soma for they feel that the drug does not help them much. However, the drug is beneficial in that it relieves throbbing pain and spasms. After getting rid of the pain, you can be able to move your legs and arms more easily. After getting physical therapy, you will be relieved from all muscle pains.

Soma is also very safe to use in comparison to other drugs in the market. Even though carisoprodol can be addictive, taking it in the right manner will not cause any addiction. The drug is highly beneficial especially for people recovering from accidents. One thing to note is that it is not appropriate to take Soma is you have a history of drug or alcoholic dependency. You should therefore inform your doctor if you have such a history before taking this drug.

You should also inform your doctor if you have experienced health conditions such as blood disorders, kidney disease, asthma, allergies or porphyria.  The doses of this drug depend upon the extent of the injury and the age of the patient. Different injuries usually need different measured quantities of this medication. Soma is approved by the Food and Drug Administration and has been available in the market for a long time now and you therefore do not need to worry about anything when taking the drug.

In order to prevent stomach upset, you should take it with food or immediately after taking meals. You should not increase the dosage that your physician prescribed to you. Since you may feel better a short while after taking Soma, you should not try to lift weights or perform other strenuous exercises too soon. Some effects that you may experience when taking this drug are lightheadedness or dizziness as you rise quickly from a lying or sitting position.

You should therefore change your positions gradually. In addition to this, you should be cautious as you engage in activities that require high levels of alertness such as driving because Soma has the effect of making someone drowsy or dizzy. You should also limit the amount of alcohol you take while using this medication. If you are pregnant, you should use it only if it is highly necessary and find out the risks and benefits of taking it from your doctor. You should also consult your doctor before you start breastfeeding since Carisoprodol is excreted through breast milk.  Note that even if Soma is a popular and effective pain reliever, you should take it carefully to prevent adverse side effects.
