When it comes to pain relief, there are many brands of drugs available in the market. One of these drugs is Celebrex, which is classified in the group of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs in short. This drug is utilized in the treatment of inflammation or pain that results from various conditions like arthritis, spondylitis, ankylosing and menstrual pain. It is also utilized in the treatment of colon polyps.

Celebrex works by reducing the substances that cause pain, fever and inflammation in the body. When it comes to using Celebrex, you should first consult with your doctor and discuss with him or her if you ever experienced reactions to sulfa-based medicines like Gantanol, Septra, Bactrim and others. You should also inform your doctor if you have experienced allergic reactions to aspirin and other NSAIDs such as naproxen, ibuprofen, ketoprofen and etodolac among others.  This is because if you have experienced such reactions, you may react in the same way to Celebrex.

Before taking the drug, you should also inform your doctor if you take alcohol, smoke, have ulcers or have liver disease. Other conditions that you need to inform your doctor about include liver disease, asthma, kidney disease, fluid retention, congestive heart failure, heart disease and high blood pressure. In addition to this, you should inform your doctor if you are taking a blood thinner or if you have a bleeding disorder. You should also inform your doctor if you are taking steroid medicines like prednisone, prednisolone and methylprednisolone among others.

If you are suffering from any of the conditions or taking the medications mentioned above, you may not take Celebrex or you may need to get a dosage adjustment or receive special monitoring during treatment. The Food and Drug Administration places Celebrex in pregnancy category C. What this means is that it is not known whether the drug is able to cause harm to an unborn baby. You should not take Celebrex in the third trimester of pregnancy because it may interfere with the formation of the heart of the baby. You should consult your doctor first before taking Celebrex if you are expectant.

You should also consult your doctor first before breastfeeding since there is no information on whether Celebrex is able to pass through breast milk. Studies of the drug have not taken place in people who are under eighteen years of age. For those who are sixty-five years old and above, they may experience side effects of taking this drug. If you are at this age, you may need to take a lower dosage and get monitored as you take it. When using Celebrex, there are certain conditions that may arise where you need to notify your doctor immediately after experiencing them.

These conditions include abdominal pain, discomfort or tenderness, bloody vomit, nausea, tarry or black stools, unexplained weight gain, water retention or swelling, lethargy or fatigue, itching, skin rash, unusual bleeding or bruising and yellowing of the skin. These conditions are signs that you may experience dangerous side effects. When taking Celebrex, it is important to follow your doctor’s instructions. You should take every dose with a glass of water and you can take it either with food or without. You should store the drug in room temperature far from heat and moisture. If you find that you have missed a dose, you should take the missed dose immediately. If a lot of time has passed between the doses, you should skip the missed dose and continue taking the scheduled dose as you have been directed. You should never take a double dose of Celebrex unless you have been directed otherwise by your doctor. You can take all types of foods or beverages when using Celebrex unless your doctor directs you otherwise.
